Vending Machine for Bike Parts Introduced by Trek via treehugger.com

How many times have you been out for a long ride without a spare tube, just hoping you don’t get a flTrekStopat? And then it happens. Bummer. It always happens to me when I actually have to be somewhere.

Trek is testing out a vending machine that has bike parts and a stand to work on your bike. It is covered and well-lit. For those times when the shop is closed and you find yourself needing to do repairs.  I can’t wait to see them start popping up around the country.

Off the Grid:30 Days via hulu.com30 days thumbnail

I recently began watching select TV shows on hulu.com, and NBC/Fox joint venture (since I elected not to have cable). 30 Days is an incredible show created by Morgan Spurlock of SuperSize Me. Each episode offers a person “the opportunity to experience life as a radically different person for one month. Each particpant investigates a world as antithetical to their own comfortable existence.” The entire series is fantastic.

In the Off the Grid episode that aired on FX on 7/13/2005, two people from the Bronx are invited to live at the Dancing Rabbit commune in the midwest. About 30 people live there full-time and totally off the grid. It was interesting to see people who have devoted their lives to making as little impact on the planet as possible, and all the things they have given up to do so.  (you will need to create a free account to watch this episode, as they mark it as mature content…) Enjoy!

A bear was spotted in a Florida residential area and shot with a tranquilizer gun. Before the drugs took full effect he wandered into the water. Adam Warwick dove in after him to keep him from drowning. 375lbs! What an awesome thing to do for the bear. =)
